Tooling Technician
Description

The Tooling Technician will work with mechanical, process, and controls engineers to help develop, assemble, build, and implement new custom equipment and tooling to the manufacturing process. This position requires a wide range of experience with manual and CNC machines, measuring equipment, and the ability to read and interpret drawings. The position will be based in our Southfield, MI headquarters with occasional travel to production facilities in Michigan reporting to the Quality Manager.

Responsibilities

Performs routine preventative maintenance tasks for optimization. Cleans and adjusts equipment and tooling for maximum output.

Repairs defective machines and equipment by installing new or repaired parts/components.

Inspects and analyzes machinery and equipment to determine root causes of breakdowns. This will include discussing machine operation variations with supervisors, or others, to determine causes and effects.

Has the ability to set up and operate machine tools such as lathe, drill/drill press, milling machine and welder to repair or fabricate machine parts, fixtures, and tools.

Mechanical fitting and assembly of components, electrical panel layout and wiring, pneumatic layout and routing of lines, ability to recognize when engineering designs are incorrect and work with engineers on correction.

Ability to assemble clean looking and well-organized machines.

Initiates purchase order requests for parts, machines, and services.

Initiates cost reduction proposals. Compiles appropriate information, makes recommendations for action, implements (if appropriate) and checks on results obtained.

Provides technical service to all other departments as requested and/or assigned.

Qualifications

1+ years of experience in a similar role.

Basic computer skills, Microsoft word, excel, outlook and similar.

CNC skills desirable. 

Familiarity with Haas Laths and Mills desirable.

Must have a working knowledge of the basic principles of good manufacturing practices, industrial hygiene practices, electrical safety, industrial maintenance processes.

1+ years of machine building experience.

Mechanical fitting and assembly of components, electrical panel layout and wiring, pneumatic layout, and routing of lines.

Ability to recognize when engineering designs are incorrect and work with engineers on correction.

Ability to assemble clean and well-organized machines.
