The Facilities Assistant should be a mechanically inclined, hands on individual who will provide assistance in an array of responsibilities including clerical work and repair/maintenance duties. The appropriate candidate will be comfortable in a shop environment as well as in an office environment. This position is based in the Southfield, MI headquarters and will report to the Facilities Manager.
The position of Facilities Assistant will assist and support various areas throughout the company facilities. The responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
Help oversee and manage day-to-day operations of the building and facilities.
Assist in handling building repairs or supervising or working with a contractor based on the work to be performed
Conduct and maintain building inventories
Help schedule repairs and maintenance of the building and/or grounds
Shipping & receiving duties
Sometimes required to work outdoors and in inclement weather
Help identify contractors/vendors for building solutions
All other duties as directed
The position of Facilities Assistant requires knowledge and experience in the following areas:
Prior facilities maintenance
Demonstrated problem solving skills
Knowledge of Electrical, HVAC and Plumbing Systems and troubleshooting
Must be mechanically inclined
Ability to read prints
OSHA/Safety prevention knowledge required
Good computer skills
Good interpersonal and communication skills required
Clean driving record
Must be able to work independently and as part of a team,
Ability to occasionally work on the weekend/holiday as needed
The person in this position must have manual dexterity such as the ability to perform intricate finger, hand, wrist, and arm movements without risk of injury to self or others. This includes the ability to feel, twist, handle and manipulate small objects, tools, and controls.
Position requires regular use of machines and equipment such as tractors, Hi-low, snow plows, and various power tools such as drills, screw guns etc.
Position requires regular exposure to heights including work on the roof and in rafters utilizing ladders.
Position may require occasional electrical work and work with gas mechanical systems and plumbing systems.
The person in this position will frequently be required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, sit, stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 5 to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Possibly lift more than 50 pounds with assistance.
Requires technical or vocational training
Training in OSHA regulations preferred
